Description: A study of the politics and function of public art and monuments, predominantly sculpture. Topics include: the challenges of public space, issues of nationalism and cultural identity, memorialisation (for example war and Holocaust memorials), patronage and the urban environment, controversial works, and local practice in relation to international case studies. Public art in Europe, North America and Australia is examined.
Prerequisites / Restrictions
Restriction: ARTHIST 706 For students currently enrolled in a BA(Hons), PGDipArts or MA in Art History, or MHerCons in Museums and Cultural Heritage.
