Description: Engineering rock behaviour including strength, stiffness and role of discontinuities. Stress-strain analysis, stability assessment of rock structures and support using advanced models of rock. Theoretical, practical and environmental aspects of ground excavation techniques as applied to tunnelling. An independent research project will develop skills and knowledge to solve a challenging engineering rock behaviour problem.

Prerequisite: CIVIL 322 or equivalent
